DID YOU KNOW?
- A correctly operating onsite wastewater treatment system treats all household wastewater (including from the toilet), to a safe standard.
- Improperly treated wastewater can contain high levels of nutrients, bacteria and other micro-organisms harmful to human health and the environment.
- You should avoid contact with the treated water, do not drink it or use it on your vegetable garden.
- Your local Council usually requires 3 monthly or annual inspections of your onsite treatment system (depending on the type of system) by an approved service technician to ensure its safe operation.
- You should only use ‘septic safe’ cleaning products. Bleaches and other strong disinfectants can kill the helpful bacteria in your treatment system, seriously reducing the system’s effectiveness.
